Sahle Griffith
Laparoscopic Surgeon

Dr Sahle Griffith is a General, Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgeon who was trained at the Centre for the Advancement of Minimally Invasive Surgery, Alberta, University of the West Indies and Imperial College London. Dr Griffith pursued his internship at Cornwall Regional Hospital in Jamaica from 2000 to 2002 and then begun his training in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery. Subsequently, he then entered the General Surgical Program in 2004 which he completed in 2009.

During this time, he took an interest in laparoscopic surgery and did an elective as an Honorary Clinic Fellow at Imperial College in London from 2007 at which point he was based at the St Mary’s Hospital in Praed Street, Paddington, Ealing Hospital in South Hall, London. While on fellowship in the United Kingdom, Dr Griffith did a Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery at the University of Strasbourg in 2008. He also spent a period of his elective training in Spain under the tutelage of renowned laparoscopic surgeons at Hospital de San Pau in Barcelona, University of Navarra in Pamplona and the Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal in Madrid. Prior to that, in 2005 he became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Upon finishing his general surgical training, he was based at the ward Cornwall Regional Hospital from 2009 and in July 2010 he went on to do a Clinical Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery and Bariatric Surgery at the Centre for the Advancement of Minimally Invasive Surgery of the University of Alberta which he completed on June 2011.

His fellowship was accredited by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery in May 2012 following review of the fellowship year. Since July 2011, Dr Griffith has been practising in Barbados, performing Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgeries and has been the Medical Director at Surgical Solutions Inc. from that time. He later took a job as a Consultant Minimal Invasive Surgeon at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital from January 2014 and has been appointed an Associate Lecturer at the University of The West Indies Cave Hill Campus in General Surgery.

Alicia Clarke
Alicia Clarke is a Registered Nurse with a BSc and MSc in Nursing and Advanced Nursing and a certificate in Peri-Operative Nursing. She is the nurse manager and bariatric nurse coordinator at Surgical Solutions Inc. Alicia Clarke has spent the last 11 years working and teaching in the field of nursing. She is a registered nurse and always had a keen interest in helping others. In her career as surgical nurse on the ward, the psychological needs of patients were often misunderstood, thus prompting her to pursue a BSc. in Psychology Special which she obtained from the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill, Barbados with Honors.
After four years of working on surgical units at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in Barbados, Alicia’s interest in a different area of nursing resulted in her being transferred to the Operating theatre, were she obtained a certificate in peri-operative nursing. She was exposed to and worked in varying surgical specialities and was also a part of the cardio-vascular team at the QEH. In 2011, Alicia joined the team at Surgical Solutions as a nurse manager, and bariatric nurse coordinator.
Due to her interest in Minimally Invasive surgery (MIS) and Bariatric, she did an observer ship program in November 2011 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Alberta Canada. Due to her keen interest in managing, teaching and coordinating, Alicia continued to pursue her Msc. in Advanced Nursing specializing in Administration in 2013-2014 where she obtained a distinction. She is a preceptor to many nurses. Alicia continues to assist in the building of a structure bariatric program in Barbados and has also assisted in formulating pre and post-operative plans for bariatric patients. In this capacity she coordinates and engages in pre and post -operative teachings of patients and is passionate about meeting the patients’ holistic needs. Alicia is affiliated with COF.
Meshell Carrington

Meshell Carrington has been a Registered Dietitian since 2005. She received her undergraduate degree from Ryerson University and her master from McGill University in Canada. Meshell has been working as a clinical dietitian over the past years and manages clients in both the in-patient and out-patient setting. In this capacity she provides nutrition counselling and education to patients with several disease states and conditions including diabetes, weight management, childhood nutrition issues and enteral (tube) feeding.

She also lectures part-time in local universities to both medical students and dietetics students. Meshell has been a preceptor to many Dietetic interns since 2009.

Meshell has published researched articles, serves on many committees including paramedical committee Barbados and is currently a member of the College of Dietitians of Ontario and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She enjoys travelling and is committed to helping solve the many nutrition challenges that exist.
